under the weather

During the days when ships were powered by sail, the captains log documented everything that happended during the day. As sickness could spread rapidly on a ship,there were often times where the number of sailers that were ill exceeded the space provided in the log to record their names. During these times, the excess names of the sick were recorded in the next column, which was reserved for the weather conditions of the day. Thus, it was not unusal for an ill sailor to be listed "under the weather".

kamikaze weather

Very cold weather, so named from the nasty nip in the air.

Fellow 1: Brrrr. It's bitterly cold out there, old bean.
Fellow 2: I couldn't agree more. It's definitely kamikaze weather. Wouldn't want to go out in it, that's for sure.

Turn Down For What

To "turn up" is to get drunk and/or high, party, and forget about life for awhile. To "turn down" would be to get serious, go to work, and deal with reality.

Turn Down For What (the song) is a social commentary making the point that many people -- especially in "the hood" -- feel that even if they do "turn down" and do everything society expects of them, the deck is still so stacked against them that their lives still will not improve.

So why bother to turn down, if there's nothing to turn down for?

We shouldn't waste our lives turning up constantly. Maybe we should turn down.

Turn down for what? What's the point? I might as well just make myself feel good and enjoy living for the moment.

Term used by Air Force drill sergents. Used primarily because it is not deemed as a "curse" word. When hearing this term for the first time, you will be in a state of shock being it just doesnt sond right. By the end of Boot Camp , you will use this term in everyday conversations.

Stew: John is a reservist and got a 34,000$ reenlistment bonus

Me: I only got 2,000$, and I am going to Iraq! "What the piss!"
