It originated from the shocking experience of immigrants shopping in an American supermarket, when asked about paper or plastic bags; it is a common first culture shock.

N. A body of people who happen to be in the presence of someone who loves to hear him/herself talk, regardless of who is present. Such speakers often ask for advice without actually listening to the advice given and instead ends up taking their own advice.
