The name comes from misreading memelrod as memelord which relates to someone thinking what they are is a memelord but they are really a memelrod.

Person 1: "HAhA!1 DoGE aMIRIght!??! aM i fUNnY yEt?1?!"
Person 2: "Ugh, you're such a memelrod dude."
