When in a diverse group and a formal setting, the phenomenon of being tongue-tied or experiencing mental gymnastics trying to take into account the diversity of viewpoints, personalities, and individual sensitivities.

I looked into the audience and got diversity handcuffs — I didn’t want to risk any off-the-cuff remarks that might be taken the wrong way.

Brass Handcuffs

Similar to the golden handcuffs that keep you at a horrible job, but upon closer inspection, you’ll notice they’re not anywhere near as valuable despite looking similar.

They’re attempting to keep people around with handcuffs, but what they’re actually offering are brass handcuffs, not gold. They’re the same color, but folks are going to leave because they’re not strong or valuable enough to keep us around.

Handcuff Muff (noun) - A handcuff muff is a muff that has the potential to land you in handcuffs. For example - an underage muff will potentially lead you to being arrested aka handcuff muff.
