Schrödinger's Date

Where single guy and single girl, who don't normally spend time alone together, agree to "hang out" and do something fun together for the first time, yet both carefully avoid the word "date". Whether it was in fact a date will be determined only after the fact, once they see how it goes. Until then, the event is a strange quantum superposition, simultaneously both date and non-date. This allows both parties to avoid potential embarrassment.

It could be a date or it could be just a hang out, we won't know till it's over. It's a Schrödinger's Date.

When an individual, typical a sorority female is wearing a shirt that goes past their waist and knees obscuring the possibility of whether or not they are wearing shorts. Like Schrodinger's eponymous cat, there is a state of uncertainty of whether the individual is wearing shorts. Thus they are simultaneously wearing shorts and not wearing shorts, until observed.

In television: a ship that is considered canon due to overwhelming use of romance tropes and a love declaration from half the ship, but also left "open to interpretation" by viewers who want to see it as platonic because the writer(s) deliberately left it ambiguous by removing the couple from the story or killing them before the other half can respond to said love declaration and confirm reciprocation. The couple can be interpreted as both "canon by valid assumption due to vast amounts of supporting evidence" and "not-canon by absence of explicit confirmation of reciprocation" depending on viewer preference.
