Capitalism

An economic system where the industry and trade are privately controlled rather than a collective or the government. Voluntary association & personal freedom in the marketplace. Businesses are driven by demand & profit, alternated by fluctuations in consumption. Individual activity is independently sufficient & enterprises challenging in an environment of competition. In other terms: Private ownership of the means of the production.

Capitalism is a meritocratic system prioritizing an individuals creativity & talent.

A politico-economic system in which the owners of the most capital (means of production) use the government to steal the private property of the masses (often in the name of private property) via such measures as eminent domain, self-serving regulation, confiscatory taxation, inflationary spending, corporate bailouts, "too big to fail" doctrines, etc., in order to maintain their own position at the top of the wealth hierarchy.
2. A misnomer for the system combining social cooperation in the division of labor with respect for the private property of all, big and small. Properly called the free market.

The USA espouses capitalism, NOT the free market.
