A backronym for “tip” or gratuity. Tipping can be seen as a way of thanking a person for good services, so “thanks in pay” works pretty well.

The waiter was friendly and attentive, so I thanked him with a good tip.

When you just settle for what it is and just take one for the team even if it means a financial loss or waste of money.

The fact that you just spent money on something that probably wasn’t worth it .
