Utilizing various internet search engines to explore the life of someone with whom you have been acquainted. This practice is used heavily in the world of dating where one partner may learn more about the other based on few facts in order to establish a better sense of who the potential partner is. This practice can be used for finding someone's home address, employment status and record, past relationships, criminal record, residence value, and social networking profiles.

Me: How did you know his father is the athletic director at the high school?
You: Because I Google-stalked him and found out his dad's name using the white pages and then searched that.

Gathering information on a person for a shy friend.

"My buddy wants me to proxy stalk this girl on Facebook since he doesn't want to make an account."

"No, I'm not going to help you get dirt on her boyfriend. I'm not a proxy stalker."

"She's just a Facebook "Friend", but you know her well. Could you... proxy stalk her for me?"

retail stalker

An individual (usually male) that goes from store to store or from department from department within the same store in a desperate pathetic attempt to date members of the opposite sex. Often they are frequent customers, but clearly their motives are not patronage and they're completely oblivious to the annoyances they cause. Sometimes they work for the same retailer they do their stalking in.

He was not successful getting the phone number of the cute girl at the Service Deli counter, so he went to Dairy and tried to get the phone number of the cutie working there. If he does not get it he will try the hottie in Electronics -- such is the life of a retail stalker.
