A shady, business transaction surprisingly gone bad with the potential of violence.
A venomous place.
A very unwelcome reception on the prospect of business, or even friendship.
Those of whom who deceptively seek gain in their home turf.

"Went to go see a potential client, never knew I was steppin' into a snake pond!"

Snake-off
“Snake-off" is a term used as a response to a remark or statement that is perceived to be irrelevant, random or unrelated to the conversation taking place between a group of people. The term is used to acknowledge that the previous remark within a conversation was odd. “Snake off” is often accompanied with a two-fingered hand gesture that simulates snake fangs and sometimes precedes a long “hissssssss” sound.
originated in Canada in the early 2000’s.
