Technically a date can be defined as a previously planned occasion to meet to engage in a mutually agreed-upon activity, where a drink or two shall be had, and lots of laughs at a hockey game with two really awesome people.

An absolute waste of time. The early stages of a inevitiblly-doomed relationship where two insecure people waste their time by puting on a fake act for the intent of impressing someone you don't like very much or not compatible with. It often ends in an ugly manner when you meet someone else you like better.
I don't do it because I don't like the headache it causes. I just want to meet a girl and court her until we are married. Dating is an absolute waste of time for me.

The word has traditionally referred to things that have become unfashionable or outmoded. Later it came to refer to things that were socially unacceptable to the viewing audience perhaps because of the viewers social standards. Within certain geographic areas of vermont and new hampshire it has taken on a new meaning - basically referring to things that generally suck ass.
