A term originated by one Mr FandL describing wankers who list a few books on Ebay, Amazon or Abebooks. By doing this they perceive that they suddenly have the status of Maggs Brothers.
An upper middle class housewife from Kent lists her husband's library of law books on abebooks for £1.00 each and tells all her friends that she is an antiquarian bookseller. When husband finds his rare and valuable collection on the shelves of Maggs brothers the wife is found strangled on the side of the road. An example of what happens to a vanity seller.

A university degree chosen primarily for the satisfaction of the knowledge one attains from it, the most important aspect of which is that you enjoy what you are studying.
This short sighted life decision often gives little thought or concern to the fact that such a degree will probably not leave the graduate with employable skills or knowledge meaning they will have to work in a job they hate forever.
Common vanity degrees include politics, womens/feminism studies, sociology, history and most arts degrees.

"I AM TRYING TO SPEND MY YOUTH BEING PASSIONATE ABOUT SOMETHING AND IF I END UP A CHECK OUT CHICK IN MY FORTIES AT LEAST I WILL KNOW THAT I KNOW A LOT ABOUT THINGS THAT I LOVE AND THAT I SPENT MY DEGREE LEARNING ABOUT THINGS I WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT"
Why waste 3-4 years and tens of thousands of dallars studying for a vanity degree with no job prospects at the end? Why not plan ahead and find something that interests you AND that you can make a career out of. That way you can spend your entire working life doing something that interests you, not just your youth and education.

When your company has received an award from an organization you have never heard of (the U.S. Local Business Association is an example) that is clearly a deceptive marketing tactic similar to the phony domain name or Yellow Pages bills that are sent in hopes your AP department will pay them. Often the incentive (and allure) is a plaque or award certificate for "recognizing that <your company name> has been selected for the 2008 Best of <your town> Award."
Spam email Vanity Scam excerpt: "In recognition of your achievement, a 2008 Best of xxxxx Award plaque has been designed for display at your place of business. You may arrange to have your award sent directly to xxxxx by following the simple steps on the 2008 Best of xxxx Award order form <https://www.uslba2008.net/xxxx> . Simply copy and paste this link into your browser to access the order form:

When someone defines a name or pseudonym of a person, sometimes out of spite but usually to get into a girls pants. May be written by the person themself, which only serves to make them look like an ass.
Despite the fact that you're actually not supposed to have definitions focused on non-celebrities, there are many such definitions.
