Semper ubi sub ubi

Latin/English sound pun. The direct translation from Latin to English is "Always where under where." When spoken it comes out as "Always wear underwear."

A previous entry mistranslates the Latin word "semper" as "never." It is of course "always," as in the US Marine motto, Semper fidelis "Always faithful."

In an episode of "Frasier," the father finds the phrase "Semper ubi sub ubi" carved into the hearth in a mountain cabin the family rents, and Niles explains it to him.

Semper Standby

When marines are in the midst of being left with out orders, they are therefore told to "standby" Which can be from one minute to an indefinate amount of hours. Leaving the marine to do nothing but sit stare. Which in turn drives marines crazy. Which is followed by crazy ass marines, doing stupid ass shit.

Local term for the "twin cities" of Champaign and Urbana in Illinois. These two cities are usually just considered one area, but Champaign-Urbana sounds too formal, so some people just say this instead. People from anywhere else usually don't get it. These people often pronounce the S in Illinois as well.
