sound sculpting

The process of taking a single pure sound, audio sample, or number of layered sounds and creatively using a variety of analog and/or digital effects to manipulate the original sound into a completely different one.

One of the most common sound sculpting instruments are synthesizers.

The simple act of taking a drum recording, running it through a low or high pass filter, a pitch and time stretcher, and then some distortion, could also be known as sound sculpting.

Some people into circuit bending will sample the sounds they record, and within a few hours of tweaking with effects, will /sound sculpt/ some lively ambient drones that are usually lowered in amplitude and placed behind recorded tracks to fill in some of the emptiness.

Nine Inch Nails, Skinny Puppy, and Crowesque are some good examples of bands who use sound sculpting to take common sounds heard around us each day and manipulate them into ambient textures, percussion sounds, or even lead synth noise.

Sound Tight Logic

A type of critical thinking skill where you insert your head up your own anus and talk a bunch of shit and you never have to admit any wrong and can quote non facts and change reality to match your perception of whatever point you're trying to get across at that particular time. Even if it conflicts with something you said 5 minutes ago.

At the same time you've got your head up your anus talking shit, your bowels will be pushing it back the other way and create a vacuum in which sound cannot escape.

"You can't seriously be telling me that, the logic is not sound tight. When was the last time you had an orgasm?"

"Cooking is not baking, you can bake something without cooking it and visa versa. Try using sound tight logic"

(n) A short, catchy statement meeting the short attention requirements of TV news. Sound bites have the annoying habit of being play again and again ad nauseum. In fact, newscasts are increasingly built around sound bites instead of hard news and analysis. And public relations firms earn huge bucks cooking up sound bites for political spin and damage control.

One memorable sound bite (1984 Debate) from Vice Presidential candidate Lloyd Bensten countering Dan Quayle's comparision of himself to President John Kennedy.

Bensten: "I knew Jack Kennedy. He was a friend of mine. You are no Jack Kennedy."
