REM stands for rapid eye movement--a sleep stage. A REM job is a colourful euphemism for sleeping--a play on the phrase rim job.

When I get home from work tonight I am gonna get the best REM job!

The Rem Effect

An anime originated term used to describe when a female side character with more character development than a main female character whom both show affection/ love interest to a main lead (usually male). The side character ends up building a lot of attention and cheering for her and her interest. The effect ends with the side character having her feelings rejected by the Main lead.

"Hey dude, what did you think of Ana? I hope she ends up with Taichi and isn't shut down by the Rem Effect."
