Make shit happen

- Something you can say you're going to do as an excuse to get drunk with a "purpose" which is to "make shit happen".

The idea is that planning out an evening is stupid. The key is to start drinking and let the booze take you on a journey.

"Making shit happen" is purposely vague as to allow your imagination to conjur up images of whatever drunken revelry it can.

- An excuse to attempt an awesome but usually ineffective play in a game or sport

- Change the game

- Create a ridiculous situation one way or another, usually involving alochol and/or bad judgement.

People sitting at home:

P1: "What are doing tonight?

P2: "Nothin much, why?"
P1: "Figured we could get drunk and make shit happen"
P2: "I'm there."

People playing beer pong:

P1: "What the hell dude that was a stupid-ass off-the-wall bounce"

P2: "I don't know about you but I'm tryin to make shit happen here, we're down 8 cups! If I make that shot that's a moral victory right there, not to mention the 2 cups it puts down. Good shot in my book."

Playing basket ball person one pulls up from 28 feet: "NBA THREE!" *air ball*

Treammate "What the fuck was that?"

P1: "Making shit happen dude, what the hell are YOU doing to help the team win?"

Teammate: "God dammit..."

These things happen

A consolation offered to someone who has just experienced something shameful or embarrassing. This may be particular to Northern Ireland but I cannot confirm.

Seems common place amongst traditional working class families, a type of "stiff upper lip" attitude.

"Awhk Billy, you've never been done for drink driving before."
"Awh a'know but I'm just so embarrassed about it."
"Louk', these things happen."

Something you tell a guy when it's just NOT GONNA HAPPEN. Must be said in a high volume or tone so that all parties within the unit know he's not getting any.

Girl: What are you doing over there... are you getting a CONDOM???
Boy: Ahhhh noooo, just grabbing my wallet... (as he reaches into roommate's nightstand drawer)
Girl: Not. Going. To happen.

It won't happen again

The phrase that people say to their boss when they know that they have fucked up and their boss has yelled at them at them. This is the acceptable response apart from "sorry" that should be used when apologising to a boss. The harshness of the reason can vary from being late to shredding a court case report. The result is always the same, the accused, embarrassed and flustered, the boss, pissed off, saying "it better not" and the rest of the workers staring at the accused.

Boss: Hey Gary, have you seen the Johnson Parking ticket case? It was on my desk.

Gary: Was it on the same corner that is the shred pile?

Boss: Yes, have you seen it?

Gary: I kind of shredded it...

Boss: YOU DID WHAT???

Gary: But it was on the shred pile

Boss: ALWAYS ASK ME WHEN YOU'RE GOING TO SHRED SOMETHING. NOW GO INTO THE SHREDDER AND PICK OUT ALL THE PAPER FROM THE FILE AND STICK IT BACK TOGETHER!!!

Gary: Sorry Mr Stevens. It won't happen again.

Boss: It better not.

A sarcastic statement used to mock someone's bad idea, pretty much saying it's not gonna work out like that.

Kid 1: "Oh man, my friend and I are gonna go get loaded it in the park!"

Kid 2: "Oh, well, I mean, the police station is right next door... But yeah, no, that's totally gonna happen."
