As a general rule extra scenes are shot earlier in the production day due to the logistics of the situation ; ie number of extras involved meal coverage and base pay per extra if applicable. In large production cities such as la atlanta and New York extras are handled by extras casting. In smaller markets the production team will hold a general call in the city where the film will be shot.in advance of the beginning of principal photography.

We were on set as extras for 11 hours in the. Holding area. For a set up that took 2 hours. At least we got meal compensation plus a small stipend for the day.
