rhetorical apology

An apology that does not require an "it's ok" response. Usually the person who is being apologized to should actually be doing the apologizing. Rhetorical apologies are often stated with large amounts of unmistakable sarcasm.

Incorrect response...
Guy: Oh come on girl! What's wrong with having a little fun?
Girl: Um do I look like the kind of person who's ok with just having "a little fun?" I'm not a slut. Sorry.
Guy: That's ok.
Girl: That was a rhetorical apology you doucher.

Correct response...

Guy: Oh come on girl! What's wrong with having a little fun?
Girl: Um do I look like the kind of person who's ok with just having "a little fun?" I'm not a slut. Sorry.
Guy: Oh no no! I'm sorry! I was completely out of line.

when a celebrity does or says something really stupid and gets massive backlash, thus they pretend to be sorry for it.

"dude, remember when Kathy Griffin fake cut off donald trump's head and then pretended to be sorry after the backlash?"

A forced apology on the basis of concern for the economic loss or blow back for not making an apology. Always given with no sense of repentance, humility, remorse or genuine contrition.

The opposite of a heartfelt apology.

Rush Limbaugh's economic driven apology following calling Sandra Fluke a slut was a "wallet apology." Motivated solely by the economic loss of losing sponsors because of his comments.
