He's such a Facebook liberal; his wall posts are full of links to Huff Post and Amnesty Intl, but he hasn't voted in ten years.

Patback Liberal

An individual who attempts to seem more progressive-than-thou by advocating for popular issues-of-the-month without creating any real or lasting change for those they are supposedly advocating for. These people can be identified by a combination of factors including upper-middle class income, Che Guevara T-shirts, peace sign bumper stickers being placed next to their Free Mumia and Obama '08 stickers on the back of their Honda Civic, and a medley of other products created by the terrible capitalist market they vow never to support.

Patback Liberal: We need to help Native Americans by changing the mascot of the Washington Redskins to something less offensive and more loving. I'm tolerant.
Smart-Ass Student: This is just another way for white liberals to pat themselves on the back and pretend they did something useful.

The term classical liberalism has often been applied in retrospect to distinguish earlier 19th-century liberalism from social liberalism.

Social-liberals have nothing in common with 19th century liberalism. They took this word,that's why we have to call ourselves classic liberal .

Liberal

Initially associated with a philosopy of personal liberty and self reliance, protected by Libretatrian and democratic government, mainly defined as such in the years 1750-1963 (Ending upon the death of John F. Kennedy)

Currently signifies, at least in western democracies, a dedication to what was previously known as socialism, with chief tenets including Government provided healthcare and education, along with mild to heavy redistribution of wealth through "Progressive" taxes based upon income. Also generally associated with the moral relativism and supposed "nonjudgementalism" of American celebrities, Secular Statesman in Europe and a whole range of other "Progressives" who criticize the current system of regulated capitalism in place in the United States. To be fair to liberals, though their economic ideas appeal especially to those within the so called "Progressive" community, the semi-socialist modern liberalism is a seperate entity from the relativists, nonjudgementalists and general haters of western civilisation and its norms(See Noam Chomsky, Michael Moore, Oliver Stone, Barbara Streisand, etc)
