In Northern Ireland the term black bastards is usually used to describe members of the unionist community, in particular those who serve with the police. It can also refer to staunch loyalists of British rule and people from the unionist community. The name originates from the marching Loyal order called the Royal Black Institution.

It often utilizes shock value to get laughs and common themes include death, violence, insanity, racism and other things that are usually not seen as funny. It is commonly mistaken with African-American comedy because of the name, but not necessarily related.

A black knight is a knight not sponsored or employed by a local lord for the defense of his lands. Therefore, the black knight does not have at his disposal the resources needed to keep his armor polished and in good repair. To save face, these knights painted their armor black, to hide any wear and tear that the armor may have endured.

A German brand of blackberry schnapps liqueur. Blackberry Schnapps is a strong, dry spirit produced using the distillation of blackberries. Frequent consumption of Black Haus will ultimitely lead to disgust for the smell/sight/or mere mention of it. Black Haus-induced blackouts are common and might result in public urination, the inability to bathe or shower yourself, frequently dropping your belongings, and listening to Garth Brooks' "Friends in Low Places" 25 times in a row.

Sober Friend #1: "Liz and Danielle drank so much Black Haus last night that they fell down in the middle of the street, droppped everything out of their purses, and kept walking without picking anything up...twice in a ten minute period."
