The opposite of laying down/when you have someone laying on top of you.

Person 1: Oh hey! Things are getting pretty serious between my partner and I!
Person 2: Really?
P1: Yeah! Last night we were laying up!
P2: Cool bro!

As opposed to Deep South. States within the confines of the American South, that border closer to the Northern states, but have strong Southern qualities . Such states as Virginia, Kentucky, parts of Southern Maryland and West Virginia as well. Virginia is a prime example, as it was part of the Confederacy, and parts are heavy in Southern culture, yet borders on Maryland and Washington, DC.

They talk with such a strong southern drawl, yet they are only from Up South in Richmond, Virginia.
