The act of stripping a song of its cultural identity or authenticity to make it more appealing to commercial or mainstream audiences. Usually involves taking hip-hop, R&B, or dancehall songs and repackaging them to appeal to a "pop" demographic. Commonly associated with sampling and whitewashing.
