A play on the bait and switch. When an old friend or acquaintance reconnects with you for the soul purpose of bragging because they've run out of friends to talk to. I.e. anyone who respects them enough to listen anymore.

“Hey! Long time no talk, I was just thinking about you and wondered what was new with you?”

“Oh hey! Well that’s nice, thanks for thinking of me. Funny that you asked, I actually just had a sex change and adopted a baby boy”

“Cool. So I just got a huge raise and a bonus and went to central America! Was thinking of switching jobs and moving away cause I’m quite bored here. What do you think?”

amen baiting

The strategy to push social media engagement by coming up with content meant to trigger a seemingly unconscious response to comment the word "amen", like or share.

This is typically seen amongst Filipino Facebook users and is something the foreign content creators who are fond of "pinoy baiting" content have not been capitalizing at the time of this writing.

Content creators and traditional media companies in the Philippines often use amen baiting content to boost their engagement as the dominantly Catholic social media capital of the world just can't help but comment "amen".

Religion Baiting

Where a large Youtube creator that has between 10k-7m subs would be using religion, to bait children into subscribing or liking his/her content, Which is very similar to Clickbaiting. They usually try to make a video where they have a character that is dressed up as a stereotypical Roblox slender, Then a Stereotypical Nun/Muslim. During the end of the video, large font saying " Like and subscribe if you love (insert Religion here)! " Is placed, and this either happens in Youtube shorts, or Tiktok.

When a girl in a relationship leads a single guy on to feel better about herself or to have a safety net if her relationship goes south. The male version of this is Hoe baiting.

(noun)- a person who consistently makes plans with people just to flake right before.

(verb)- the act of baiting someone with cool plans, then is no where to be found when shit goes down.

"Dude! Brittany and I were supposed to go out to Oakland tonight, but she freaking bait and flaked me man!"

"Derek said he got us Limp Biskit tickets for tomorrow night but since he hasn't texted me back. What should I do? "
"Nothing. You just got bait and flaked bz."

Race Baiting

A term used by white people to dismiss criticism and objection to racist policies or racial discrimination; attempting to discrediting the critic as a person inciting racial tension when none (supposedly) actually exists. Functionally equivalent to a Red Herring designed to distract the audience from the real issue (IE pre-existing racial tension).

Essentially, use of the phrase indicates a desire to stop discussions of racial tension. Probably because they make white people feel really uncomfortable.

"Why is it cops harass black people so much more than white people?"

"Stop trying to rile people up! You're just Race Baiting!"
