A rugged, poverty stricken state with a naturally beautiful landscape and a unique population. West Virginia's poor economic infrastructure stems from the lack of an urban white-collar economy and collapse of the coal industry. The largest city in the entire state is Charleston, which is home to a mere 185,000 residents. However, the lack of a powerful economy has prevented suburban mall districts and McMansion golf course homes from destroying rural areas (as is common in most southern states). The result of this commercial isolation, rural living, and blue-collared work force is a truly authentic group of people who can only be defined as Mountaineers (which is the team name of West Virginia University). These Mountaineers are characterized by a love of the outdoors, a fondness of reckless partying, thier nasal southern/midwestern hybrid accent, and their generally gregarious attitudes. West Virginians usually inhabit small towns of about 15,000-45,000 where people live in modest homes on large sects of land, which explains the passion for all things outdoors. And with the beautiful, mountainous landscape, it is a perfect place to be an outdoorsman (especially in fall/winter). However, a large problem with West Virginia is fraud from those collecting from the goverment by either women who have pawned their children off on their parents, or by former laborers who file false claims of injury to collect money and prescriptions. Couple that with the large amount of productive young people who migrate to cities such as Baltimore, Pittsburgh, NYC, and Philadelphia, and there are not many young people with college experience who stay in the state.

In short, West Virginia is a pretty place without a city worth mention. Most people who live here are very easy going and fun, but also relatively uneducated and poor.

The state slogan is "West Virginia: Wild, Wonderful", and if it were ignoring economy, this would be a perfect description. Which is the reason I had to leave for Pittsburgh.

Northern Virginia 

A used-to-be Southern place.

Northern Vriginia used to be cultured and refined and genteel like the rest of Virginia and the South. Now its a bland, vanilla milkshake yuppyized Starbucks fragment of what it used to be. Northern Virginia used to look to RICHMOND- NOT D.C. as its cultural reference points. In the last 30 years or so, it has become a cultural void full of NEW MONEYED tranpslants who lack culture of any kind and who are ashamed to be Virginians. As well they should be, because they lack the grace and genteelity that once was Northern Virginia !

should be emancipated from the state for the simple fact that they take away from the southern hospitality and charm the rest of Virginia has to offer; population comprised of generally prickish attitudes regarding people from anywhere else which is supported by the fact that most of them have never been south of Stafford County. You can point them out by their general condescending demeanor, when the truth be told, they probably, as a whole, have less money than their southern counterparts.

northern virginia 

I have lived here forever with the exception of D.C. Pretty cool place to live if your not in the extremely rich make you feel broke areas like Ashburn, Countryside, Cascades, Chantilly, these areas are packed with rich kids that will piss you off as is the same with Tyson’s Corner. Loudoun County period is by far the worst. But everything past that is pretty cool. Alexandria, Falls Church, Arlington, Baileys Crossroads, and Skyline ect ect. Are pretty cool places if you’re not in the Ghetto Immigrant populated areas like Culmore and parts of West Falls Church and lomans plaza falls church . There is allot of Gang bullshit here but it’s mainly 18thst and MS13 Bullshit. There are allot of GD'S as well. But the gang shit isn’t really anything to worry about in my opinion ive lived here my whole life and only gotten stabbed once. Yes there are fine women its just too bad the good looking ones live in Ashburn and are rich and will piss you off. Personally I like D.C. and Baltimore a lot more. But its home here to me. Plus there is ALOT of good ass weed here especially in the rich areas.
