Despite the two characters being completely unrelated, they're commonly shipped due to both wearing fedoras. The term is a portmanteau of "fedora", the hats they wear, and "fag" - a homophobic slur that's occasionally used on 4chan, SomethingAwful and Dvach to describe someone being a creator or a fan of something.
