A period of time when many inventors all over the world, despite isolation from each other, and with no contact with each other in any way, begin inventing a similar technology with a coincidental commonality of ideas.

The invention of the steam engine didn't occur in only one place but was invented independently and in isolation by many inventors all over the world.

Another example of steam engine time includes the independent invention of the aeroplane by people in isolation from each other in many different regions of the world, leading to arguments about "who" invented the aeroplane first.

Engineering eighty

The equivalent of freshman fifteen but for engineering majors. The engineer will spend his university life doing nothing but eating, sleeping, studying, and drinking. Thus, over the term of their degree engineers will be the last ones picked for varsity sports, due to their poor exercise habits and non-existent cardio.

Catalog Engineer

Someone who reads catalogs of equipment -- high performance car parts, electronics or whatever -- and suddenly thinks he knows everything. These people are easy to spot -- they spend a great deal of money "improving" their cars, stereos or whatever. What they say sounds like hyperbolic ad copy and they won't let go of their beliefs, no matter how often someone proves them wrong.

Adam: Oh great, Ed's on a rant. He bought some gadget he found in a hot rod magazine for his car and claims it's doubled the power and his fuel economy. I looked at the thing and it's junk, just like all the other "performance parts" he bought in the last month.

Eve: That's Ed, alright. A real "Catalog Engineer."

Egirl

The original definition of e-girl has been skewed. An e-girl is actually a girl who is a gamer, or uses her bodies to stream like amouranth or pink sparkles.

People have been starting to alter the original definition of e-girl to “emo girl” which is stupid. if someone puts hearts under their eyes or wears dark eyeliner they aren’t an e-girl. Don’t get confused! E-girl and emo-girl are NOT the same thing!

Bob: That one girl who wears goth clothes and hearts under her eyes is such an egirl!
Tim: egirl doesn’t mean emo girl bob, pokimane is an egirl, basically a slut streamer.

Bob: thanks Tim! Didn’t know the word has been changed.

software engineer

Software Engineer is a professional that uses Software Engineering and all of its engineering principals during all phases of software development. Too bad this was only achieved once in all of recorded history.

That hacker called himself a software enginer.
That coder thinks she is a software engineer.
Those programmer wishes they were software engineers.
I am the only software engineer I know that is why we don't have a union.
