Soulmate is something like a best friend, but more. Soulmate is your second half, without them, you're not complete. It's someone that makes you a better person, knows you better than anyone else and no matter what happens, you'll always love eachother.

A word often applied to the elusive love of a person's life; the one who got away - soulmate is what a love-er calls the love-ee when the love-er is still in enough limerence to overlook the fact that the love-ee is really is an asshole/bitch. Blindly overlooking fatal flaws in a person, romanticism at an exponential level. Also used when clinging to the belief that because two people share some odd/romantic common factor they are forever linked. Used when denying fatal flaws.

Get the soulmatemug. A term mentioned a lot in American television talk shows and by pop 'psychologists' like Dr Phil. A psuedo metaphysical cliché based on normative assumptions about personal relationships.
It is an elusive and subjective term and any definition would be to apply a generalisation to personal relationships. It could be argued that searching for a 'soulmate' will only lead to frustration because it is questionable that such an entity even exists.
