A true combination of fussing and fossicking. Can be used to describe that pointless exercise of trying to tidy up something, whilst at the same time searching for something. In the end you get a zilch, and more to tidy up

Pretending to be looking around for something yo9u know is not there making a big drama about the effort and time it is taking.

2:

Seeming busy at work but actually doing nothing when there is nothing left to do. This is to keep the boss thinking that you are really useful

Tod did a round of fussiking about before any one came to the realisation that he never even had the exhaust section he said he had in stock. It was a complete waste of everyone's time watching his performance.
