To mess about, to waste time on needless activities, largely resulting in a commendable achievment of fuck all. Often causing lateness. Also called "fannying about" by the more conservative of you. Females specialise in fannying, hence the term "fanny". However there are famous males such as George Bush who bear the hallmarks of fannying. The Iraq war being one of George Bush's most famous incidents of fannying about.

1. "I'm sorry, but to me foreplay is just beating around the bush. It's too much fannying about for my liking."

fanzine

Combination of fan and zine. Coined in 1940 by Maryland sf fan L. Russell Chauvenet to apply to the amateur publications put out by sf fans (as opposed to "prozines," the professional magazines). (Previously they had been called "fan magazines" but the new term was promptly adopted since "fan magazines" also meant professional magazines put out at the time about movie stars.) The term has since been coopted by any number of interest areas where amateur publications are involved, including but not limited to rock.

I used a mimeograph to publish my fanzine.
