Effort Value

Attributes which give bonuses to a Pokémon's stats and improve differently depending which Pokémon they defeat. These bonuses, in the form of effort points, are gained in addition to bonuses gained by increasing level. Pokemon who are candied do not receive these bonuses, making them weaker than those leveled by battling.

Trainer 1: I worked really hard, but my Charizard's speed Effort Value is still low!

Trainer 2: That's because Charizard's base speed is already low. It's attack should be higher, but it's nature can affect it's stats, too.

shock value

The only value in filthy, disgusting, violent, or obscene materials in the media (television shows, movies, online forums, etc.). Ironically, these things have become so common that even the shock value is gone, leaving their existence pointless and the masses desensitised (or disgusted).

The reason half the definitions on UD exist.

You can't show that on television! Oh, wait, nevermind.

The price of a sellable item (highest at which it can be sold at) less the cost of bringing it to the point of sale (repairs, delivery etc.)

The computer is worth £X, but repairing it will cost £Y, and delivery costs and admin will be £Z.

family values

Something that those people who have don't try to impose on others, and those who don't possess try to shove down everyone's throats.

Massachusetts, the first US state to have legalized gay marriage, frequent attractor of hate from the "family values" crowd, has the lowest divorce rate in the US (2.4 per 1000 persons) and the lowest teenage pregnancy rate in the US (7.9% of pregnancies). For comparison, Texas, a bastion of "family values" (and executions), leads the nation in teenage pregnancy (16.4% of pregnancies); states in the Bible Belt (Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Texas) have divorce rates approximately 1.5 times the US average of 4.1 divorces per 1000 persons.
