Get the Ugly Familiarmug. The "familiarity filter" refers to the phenomenon where children are more inclined to listen to strangers rather than their own parents, often due to filtering out familiar things that have always been there.
It's interesting how the familiarity filter works; my child pays more attention to advice from a teacher than from me, just because it feels new and different.
