Some do it because they dislike consumerism & refuse to buy into it. Others just scavenge because it's free stuff which would otherwise end up in a landfill or dump, & who want to save money. A dedicated scavenger may dumpster dive & own a pickup truck or other vehicle for the specific purpose of transporting scavenged goods.
