People are taking the definition of literally far too literally; I mean LITERALLY.
This is urban dictionary, it's literally made for incorrect colloquial usage cases. (this one happens to be both at once, which is likely why children first learn a mistaken use case)

Get the literallymug. A word that you will learn when you are 7 years old. When you hear it, you will think that it’s a super-high intelligence word and use it in every sentence from then on out. People still do that as adults, which is always mind-numbing unless Chris Traeger says it. Then it’s okay.
