respect can be internal (respect for oneself), but it is a term typically used to describe a feeling of admiration or positive regard for someone else. respect and love, unfortunately, are not interchangeable terms. Someone might "love" you, but love is not sustainable, "good," or virtuous in its own right / by itself.

My boyfriend really respects me, he doesn't pressure me into doing things I'm not comfortable with and he does things that improve my everyday.
