facebook baiting

Posting a status (or photo, or link, or anything, really) on Facebook with the sole purpose of baiting someone specific into commenting on it. Frequently used to initiate Facebook flirtation. Widely used as a tactic for such, but rarely acknowledged.

"I know Nick loves Bon Jovi, so I'm facebook baiting him by putting some "Livin on a Prayer" lyrics as my status.

Yale bait

A hot girl you meet or hook up with while touring or visiting a prestigious academic school and end up going to that school because you believe (mistakenly) that most girls there look/act like her.

*On a campus tour of Cornell*

Guy 1: "Dude this tour guide is hot, I am totally going here."

Guy 2: "Don't be fooled, she's just Yale bait, girls here are a 5 on average."

Girl: "I don't even go here, the campus hired me to get people to enroll."

link baiting

The web publishing practice, usually on news or blogging sites, where something controversial is written (or a controversial headling is written) that the publisher knows will get a lot of interest from site visitors.

The ultimate goal is that the link will then appear on link aggregating sites (Digg, Fark, StumbleUpon, College Humor, Drudge, etc.), which will bring even more traffic to the site.

"Hey, look at this! 'Gay Preacher Caught Having Sex With Porpoise!'"

"Hah, looks like link baiting to me."

bear bait

On a highway, car that passes you going way over the posted speed limit. If there is a speed trap ahead, he will get caught instead of you. See also cop cleaner. The bear part comes from "Smokey The Bear" - shortened to "Bear" - old CB'er term for a highway patrol officer because of their rather distictive headgear which resembles a national park ranger's hat.

Trucker 1: "Breaker, breaker - Jimmy, I gotta make up some time - any Bears around? Over."
Trucker 2: "Not seen any, Peter - but that young buck blew by us in the Eclipse musta been doing about 90. Bear bait fer sure. Over."

A catfish bait that is made up of some real nasty shit. Examples include crawfish blood, chicken guts, and beef liver. When all put together it creates one mighty stink. Heat makes the smell even worse.

Hey Big Ern, this stink bait is the bomb, I have caught 5 catfish already.

A pornographic film series in which a bunch of homosexual men use a hot woman to bait some retarded guy into a bus, tell him it's the legendary "Bang Bus," and say that they are going to blindfold him and let the hot girl suck him off.
