Indie clothing comes in two forms:
-> Clothing from lesser known, independent clothing brands.
-> Old / vintage clothing usually from a thrift shop.
Independent labels:
- clothing made by small artistic start-up lines that haven't been cannibalized by corporate america. they often do their own printing or sewing, a lot of times by hand.
- these are pretty unrelated to thrift store clothes, as these are good quality due to the painstaking attention to detail and hand made nature of the items.
- the opposite of indie clothing are places like The Gap and American Eagle.
Thrift store stuff:
- flannels, old retro / band t-shirts, chucks converse, skinny jeans.
- these are of varying quality, though they usually look worn.

Get the indie rockmug. Originally a term for the Independent/Unsigned Indie Rock scene, now is a sub-genre of alternative rock. Not only categorized anymore by the Independence or label of the band, but rather by the sound. Vocals usually exemplify attributes such as exadurated consonant pronunciation, Poetic/symbolic/allegoric lyrics, lyrics which are completely random and interpretive, or lyrics that tell a story. The lyrics of certain songs may be confused with "emo" music, but the Indie scene does not center on such pathetic subjects and has an overall brighter philosophy on life. Sloppy guitar chords, random solos, violin/other commonly classical instrumentals, Off-beats and unique digital editing.

Indie stands for individual so 'weird and wonderful' kin of look. Mixing it with the rebellious grunge makes a softer version of it appealing to many people.
Style items include:
•Distressed jeans/shorts/tights
•Band tshirts and tshirts with some colour
•Round glasses
•Combat boots

Get the indie grungemug. Someone who says she/he listens to indie, when in reality all their music comes from websites that advertise as a place to get "indie rock" therefor not making it indie. Also someone who claims to know an indie band when in reality he/she just claims to in order to be accepted.
