Gaming Vampire

Someone who is awake all night gaming, then sleeps in the morning or later that day. In competitive games the average night time player is usually more dedicated and of a higher skill level than the average during the day, making ranked play at night a more risky and difficult prospect.

"Jim: Yea, we had like 10 ranked games, but we played in the middle of the night when all the vampires were out so it was pretty rough going.
Jimbo: Yea man, gaming vampires can be pretty sweaty."

crisis vampire

A person stimulated by a medical crisis to be overly concerned and nosy, requiring reassurances and time and energy you don't have as to your outcome that no one can answer.

I didn't hear from them for months and when i got sick, they started calling and messaging all the time with their cloying need for comfort and curiosity as to what the "real story" about my disease was. My illness gave them energy: crisis vampires!!!

Knowledge Vampire

A Knowledge Vampire extracts unique information, knowledge and practice wisdom that form the body of knowledge resulting from another's intellectual and scholarly pursuits. They do this because their rise in success, social currency or professional status relies on preserving an illusion of intellectual prowess in that and other disciplines to maintain a competitive advantage.

Knowledge Vampires are mostly (but not always) unaware they are extracting knowledge from another person. Like Energy Vampires, who employ traits along the narcissism behaviour spectrum to recruit an unending supply of emotional energy, Knowledge Vampires are able to retain a supply of targeted information through grooming methods that build trust and guarantee attention on their knowledge acquisition needs.

Knowledge Vampires cannot be deterred by garlic or crucifixes but can be with contracts and written agreements that preserve your intellectual property.

I've been bitten by a Knowledge Vampire who posed as a trusted colleague and is now passing my intellectual property off as their own. I wish I had eaten more garlic.

Pulling a Vamp

In Metal Gear Solid 4, the character Vamp is known for his scene where he gets shot right in his forehead. The thing is, he doesn't die when he is shot. "Pulling a Vamp" is being shot in the head and surviving.

Sniper 1: Shoot him!
Sniper 2 fires gun and hits the man in the foreheaad*
Man: Ow! Wait, I'm still alive!!
Sniper 2: What! No way!
Sniper 1: He's pulling a Vamp on us!!!

Retail Vampire

For those who work in retail during the holiday season it's the phenomenon of going into work in the dark and going home in the dark-- thus eliminating any sun exposure for about 3 months.

co worker: "You gonna skip out early today boss?"

boss: "Nah, you know us retail vampires-- all day every day!"
