Kelp

a word used to refer to a little kid - usually a naughty little kid, or mischievous wild rascal. Derived from Scottish 'Kelpie' which is a water spirit (or sprite, or imp or... you know those kinds of folklore-ey things).

They roasted their marshmallows and then the little kelps only went and tried to stick the marshmallows on Grandad's head!

A marine environmentalist or one who believes underwater kelp forests and all living things in the ocean or beaches should not be damaged or harmed. Someone who works to protect the aquatic environment from destruction or pollution. The synonym of a tree hugger or hippie except in an oceanic or aquatic environment.

Dana's such a kelp hugger that she joined Surfrider Foundation and now does the beach clean-up every month.

Kelp Girl

While out at a venue that encourages dancing (ie, the bar) you will often see Kelp Girls in segregated groups. Their choices in footwear, and sometimes clothing, make movement difficult. Their shoes inhibit movement, and thus, while looking out into a crowded dance floor, you will see women swaying and wiggling to the music without their feet ever shifting from their inital position. The effect is that of kelp and other seaweed, moving in the currents of the water.

Did you see that "Kelp Girl"? Her stilettos must have been 5 inches high.
