Gnoming is essentially like planking and owling, completely pointless and stupid where someone sits in a person's garden in random positions much like a garden gnome.

Gnoming

The act of carrying or transporting an overall useless or underpowered item in a game far past the point it is necessary to have.

The term refers to an achievement from Half Life 2: Episode Two where the player brings a gnome from early in the game to be placed in a rocket at the end.
