Charles Darwin

An English Naturalist who was the author of “Origin of Species” as well as several other books. Charles Darwin revolutionized biology with the scientific theory of evolution. Evolution is Descent with modification. Change in the genetic composition of a population during successive generations, as a result of natural selection acting on the genetic variation among individuals, and resulting in the development of new species. This is a scientific fact and the theory of evolution has never been disproved much as some would like to see that happen.

For some reason this inspires great hostility among people who have obviously never read or done research on evolution. (As evidenced by the questions about why are there still apes. Answer: Evolution isn’t a ladder, it more like a tree that has many branches. Humans didn’t evolve from modern day apes such as chimpanzees… humans and chimps have a common ancestor. The descendents of that common ancestor split off into different species over millions of years. )

Charles Darwin had ten children, three of whom died early. Many of his surviving children and their grandchildren would later achieve notability themselves.

Darwin'd

When someone performs an incredibly stupid action that results in their death or their sterilization, it is said they have been "Darwin'd", as they have done humanity a favor by keeping their potentially genetic mental defects out of the gene pool. The name refers to Darwin's theory of evolution, in which a species survives and adapts by being the most fit (to pass their genes on), and anyone who has been "Darwin'd" clearly is not. Being "Darwin'd" is a prerequisite to winning a Darwin Award

John stood in front of a moving car after his friend dared him fifty dollars to. John was hit by the car, and is now in a persistent vegetative state. Due to his newfound inability to breed as a result of his poor judgement, it can be said that he has been "Darwin'd"

Darwin Akbar

Another parody of the phrase "Allah Ackbar," used most often when a suicide bomber accidentally blows himself up prematurely in a "work accident."

Technically means "Darwin is greater," but refers to the Darwin Awards which are annually given to those individuals who accidentally kill themselves in the most idiotic way, thereby (thankfully) removing their genes from the human gene pool -- a comic inversion of the concept "survival of the fittest."

After Habib prematurely blew himself up, taking Abdul and Mohammed with him, his neighbors gathered next to the rubble and shouted "Darwin Akbar!"
