reject false icons

A phrase pawned by the animated band Gorillaz a short time before the release of their second album, Demon Days. According to Guitarist Noodle, "Reject False Icons means many things. Think for yourself is one of them."

It is often preluded with the phrase "Respect false icons," the full phrase becoming "Respect false icons, reject false icons." A generally accepted idea is that the phrase was created to show that people should appreciate things such as music and the media, but not idolize them as they would God or religion.

Sadly, however, many Gorillaz fans have accepted the phrase as a use to describe any "posuer" artist or one they do not like as a false icon (I.E. Avril Lavigne, Hillary Duff, Eminem) and continue to worship Gorillaz, thus destroying the whole meaning of the phrase.

Ironically, these fans repeat the phrase mindlessly in a manner resembling that of the zombified heads in the Gorillaz website-exclusive "Rock it" video used to promote the Reject False Icons campaign.

Urban Dictionary rejection

That sad moment when you try and add a word to Urban Dictionary and they send you the email saying that the editors decided not to publish it. This lowers your self esteem because it makes you think you're not the funniest mother fucker alive like you thought all your life.

rejection

Rejection is an avoidable part of life. Nevertheless, rejection is a very painful experience. But life would be very boring without it. A person that has never experienced rejection is a sheltered little fuck with a perfect life; someone who has never had to work hard for anything. A person that is a stranger to struggle, pain and rejection is not worthy of respect. Even those people with "perfect" lives that never experience rejection are miserable. Look at any young rich celebrity; they're all strung out on all types of substances. Rejection is an experience that makes us all stronger. The world is a hard and cold place. Not getting the girl or guy of your desires or not getting to live the life you want will only give you the inspiration to try harder and improve yourself as a person.

I'm 26 years old and I have experienced rejection my entire life. But every time I look in the mirror I think "Damn, I am one handsome lucky bastard..."
