Desi Ghetto

An impoverished, neglected, or otherwise disadvantaged locality or residential area of a city, with a disproportionately large Indian immigrant population.

These areas are notorious for petty crime and street fights between confused Brown kids (see: Sauga Boy).

Often you'll see adult children still living at home with their parents in desi ghettos or two to three families living in one home - this is because desis are cheap as hell.

Desi Justice Warrior

A pejorative term for a South Asian (Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi) individual who repeatedly and vehemently engages in arguments on social justice on the Internet, often in a shallow or not well-thought-out way, for the purpose of raising their own personal reputation. A Desi Justice Warrior, or DJW, does not necessarily strongly believe all that they say, or even care about the groups they are fighting on behalf of.

In monkey-see-monkey-do style, Desi Justice Warriors follow the steps of their non-Desi counterparts, the infamous Social Justice Warrior.

Non-DJW: A man walks into a bar...

Desi Justice Warrior: You sexist fucking pig, I identify as a bar and the fact you didn't get verbal consent from the bar before you entered it is very triggering. Also, stop oppressing us brown people.

desi standard time

A timezone imagined by those of Indian Subcontinental descent, resulting in a time from 30 minutes to 3 hours past the actual time. Although DST may not be specified by a desi, one must assume this difference and add to the promised time accordingly.

Jane: "What time will you be over for dinner?"
Jaspreet: "6 or so." (desi standard time)
Jane: "Okay, I'll have things ready at 8:30 for you."

Anoop Desai

Anoop is a contestant on American Idol Season 8 who is more commonly known as Anoop Dogg, Noop Dogg, and various other forms of this name. The nickname came about when Simon mispronounced his name and Anoop corrected him, adding "Randy, you can call me 'Noop Dawg!" It is a play on the rapper Snoop Dogg's name.

desiaspora

Refers specifically to the diaspora of people from India and/or South Asia mostly into Europe and North America, and occurring primarily in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

The recent desiaspora has had an obvious impact on media demographics in the United States as more and more South Asians are appearing on TV and Film in non-stereotypical roles.
