lobtailing

Action of snowboarders, while waiting in line for the snow skiing, of slapping their snowboard on the snow, with one foot strapped in, while standing on the other foot. This is done ostensibly to remove accumulated snow, but actually to just make a loud obnoxious noise to draw attention to, or entertain, themselves (see also narcissistic sociopath). The term comes from the sound made by beavers, dolphins, whales, etc. of slapping their tails on the water.

His lobtailing was the only way the rad dude snowboarder could get the ski bunny to even look his direction.
