Onion-take

Where a reader absentmindedly scrolls through their social media or news feed and encounters an article too strange or too sad to be real. The reader then reflexively reverses scroll direction to verify if the article is a piece of satire or authentic news.

Named for a portmanteau of Onion, a satirical news outlet, and the double take.

Alex was prompted to Onion-take while scrolling Facebook, and found themselves horrified to learn that the article about competitive-eater Kobayashi being beaten by Chris Christie was posted by BBC News and not The Onion.

Pound the Onion

Common slang used by middle eastern men...it actually has a literal translation rather than a metaphorical one which may be imagined by non-middle eastern folks.

Refers to the massive eating frenzy's which take place amongst family and friends. Inclusive of Kabobs, Basmati Rice, & ofcourse Raw White Onions. Rice Dishes in the middle eastern culture which are accompanied by lamb, beef, chicken, and are always represented with a side of cut raw onions. Raw onions are served table side at most middle eastern restaurants alongside Lavash Bread as an appetizer.

Pizza Onion

A kindly old blondie who, surprisingly, used to be the principal of Mckinnon Secondary. This is surprising because MSC is well known for its cruel and barbaric practices and has violated the Geneva Convention on many occasions. Either she is clueless on these events happening around her or he simply turns a blind eye to them, she is actively allowing these crimes to happen. It is theorized that Pizza Onion was brainwashed by Lachlan Noble and Richard Long duos a long time ago, perhaps somewhere in the early 1860’s using a mixture of coercion and interrogation techniques. Regardless, she does not care or does not know about the atrocities that were committed in McKinnon Secondary. She retired at the end of 2022 and now resides in her home and is regularly visited by her granddaughters.

Haruku: Hey bro, I think Pizza Onion was the only nice authority figure who seemed to be on our side this entire time.

Thomas: I know. I wish she started younger so we could still have her. I miss the days with her here.

burning onions

A person is said to be "burning onions" when they are having a hard time accomplishing a specific goal.

Unlike "spinning your wheels" this phrase does not contain any insinuations of harming the environment with toxic smoke. In fact, onions are better to eat than wheels, so it's really the healthier of the two phrases.
