Chamuscador

A chamuscador (word in Spanish) is someone who singes the spines off of a prickly pear leaf or "nopal" as referred to in Spanish. The chamuscador wears a tank with a wand and a torch on his back and wanders through the desert singing the spines off of the prickly pear leaves so that cattle won't damage their gums when they eat the nopal leaves. The cattle eat the leaves for hydration when it's really hot.
