Cancel Culture

Right wing device used to delegitimize concerns of racism, sexism, and other forms of bigotry as being nothing more than jokes. There is a way to joke about the absurdity of bigotry; there is also a way to out yourself as a racist. People who get offended about the other side not accepting their bigotry will cry about cancel culture. It is the scarecrow or the distraction tactic used by the right to not make conscious efforts in changing this toxic mentality.

If cancel culture is a problem; how about we first talk about what is being cancelled and if it is deserving of cancellation. After all, no one is forcing you to participate or watch. You can always change the channel. When you switch the channel, you are cancelling that tv program. So what’s the problem irl, to tell folks you don’t accept their bigotry and that you are walking away from them?

Cancel Culture

A term that has quickly risen in popularity by the crybaby right-wing nut bags after learning that there are actually consequences for their deplorable actions and words. Ironically, these people are strong advocates of capitalism, while spreading misinformation and fearmongering about socialism, crying when people actually vote with their wallets and avoid buying from someone with very shitty morals.

Purity culture

When a bunch of little kids don’t understand that if you don’t like something on the internet you can take measures to avoid it. But they never seem to get it and end up harassing people because of it.

This happens in fandoms when something even the slightest bit controversial is brought up they hop in with how pure and morally correct they are. They like to attack people who they believe to be morally incorrect.

Ex: a problematic ship, art with a character with a slightly different shade skin tone, art with characters that they believe is the incorrect weight, people who ship something that isn’t cannon, and indulging in anything they believe is morally wrong.

All of these kids for that there are people behind those screens. They love throwing the word pedophile any chance they get using little to no evidence. A phrase they love is “they said this *insert slightly racist joke* two years you shouldn’t like them” but they love to remove the fact if they apologized for it or it was clearly a joke. That’s another thing every single questionable JOKE will offend them.

Long story short don’t trust people who are in purity culture they will turn on instantly if they even think you have done something wrong.

“Purity culture kills creativity.”
“Purity culture is used to attack accounts that make ADULT content. Because they believe it is wrong even though it isn’t real.”

counter-culture

A misleading term coined by the music industry and MTV to trick gullible, angsty teenagers into a false sense of rebellion, either against "mainstream" music scenes, society, or at least their parents.

Counter-cultures can range from obscure and "underground" (also another industry trick word) to being popular and mainstream.

When a counter-culture becomes mainstream (such as grunge in the 90's and most recently, emo), it is still marketed as being against the mainstream although music acts of that genre might be flying off the charts. Of course this leads to the more elitist counter-culturists who follow a counter-culture just to impress their friends by following obscure, unpopular and/or cult-favorite music acts.

Common examples of counter-cultures (both mainstream and underground):
Reggae
Punk(that includes you "hardcore" punk types. Don't give me any "but I'm a TRUE Punk because I hate Avril and pop-punk" bullshittery)
Ska
Emo
Raver music
Grunge
Nu Metal
Indie
Techno
Gangsta Rap
Any other offshoot of Punk or Metal in general.

Let me be to the point here:
You're not unique.
You're not profound.
You're not original.

You're a sheep that follows a smaller herd. That's all. I'm not any better but at least I realise it instead of being arrogant to people about my music preferences.

Cancel Culture

The dangerous idea that disagreement legitimizes attack.

Cancel Culture is on full display in the riots of 2020. The rioters are burning down cities and nothing is being done about it. Many Mayors are sympathetic to the rioters' grievances, so there is no response to the violence. In the meantime, business owners who have paid millions in taxes over the years to the government for protection are seeing their businesses destroyed.

The rules, regulations, and unwritten policy for a corporation, the way it treats its employees, allowing them to dress a certain way or have certain events to their benefit.
This was changed to make people feel better about the restraints put on them at work.

It's not corporate policy, it's our corporate culture.
