Hurt is a small country town in central Virginia. It is a part of Pittsylvania county and is a small dot on a map. There is a population of 5,000 people, most of which are either rednecks or old people.
Hurt is an extremely exciting place to live; The only things in Hurt worth mentioning are the post office and the nasty Japanese restaurant that used to be good. You actually have to go to a neighboring town to find anything to do. The nightlife includes, "hangin' at Food Lion" or if you are cool enough, "chillin' at the Freeze". The especially dumb people tend to attend field parties and get drunk because there is nothing better to do.
Hurt is conveniently located 30 miles from any store other than Wal-Mart (getting a Wal-Mart was the biggest thing that ever happened to this town.) and you have to drive an hour to get to any decent shopping. If you are considering moving to Hurt or Altavista, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!

Get the Hurt, VA mug.A small civil-war era town in Fairfax County, originally known as Devereux Station in the 1800's. Many battles during the Civil War were fought near this town, such as in Bull Run. The town grew in both size and wealth dramatically in the late 1800's and early 1900's, due to increased tourism, and it's reputation as a Progressive Era town, housing the Ivakota Farm reform school. The town fell into disrepair during the Great Depression, and by the 1960's, had become nearly abandoned. As growth from Burke and Fairfax encroached on the region in the 1970s, laws were established permitting a minimum of 5 acres per home, prohibiting suburban growth in the town. The post-modern movement sought to preserve Northern Virginia's history, leading to revitalized interest in the town. As more and more wealthy residents moved in, home prices in the immediate area began to rise dramatically, and gentrification began in and around the town. In fact, through the 1970's, Clifton became known as a vacation spot for those escaping the stress of D.C., which can be seen in some of the era's homes, which resemble ski lodges. Throughout the 1980's and 1990's, the area surrounding the town became heavily built up, creating a whole new family atmosphere in the town, leading to the creation of events such as Clifton Day, The Clifton Homes Tour, the New Years Eve sleigh ride, The Clifton Car Show, and the Haunted Trail. In the 2000's, the town continued it's rise to become a popular tourist destination for those looking to take a step back to a Victorian-Era town with a history intertwined with the beginnings of Fairfax County. Clifton from it's inception to today is an great example of reinvigorated interest in our Nation's history, and the quintessential story of the small town.

They are some of the poorest people I have ever seen; some live without running water or electricity. So don't let anyone tell you there isn't poverty or extreme wealth, b/c I've seen that too.

Ever wonder what's up with the minute men bit? Well in at the Virginia Convention held May, 1775 in Richmond, Va. The colony was divided into 16 districts instructed to "raise" and discipline a battalion of men "to March at a minutes notice"
George Washington desinged Culpeper's Downtown streets and 229.
As far a Urban legends go, Culpeper certainly has a few of those. For example "the 29 stalker" is rumored to reside in town and be the son of a wealthy landowner, however much is left for speculation.
More fact than fiction Culpeper contains a Superfund cleanup site that is nearly 20 years past the expected date of completion.
And an officer shot an unarmed older lady for a reason that will forever be unknown. This officer is currently a free man.

Get the Culpeper County, Va. mug.Extremely busy, college city, located in Central Virginia. The city is caught in a political and social cross-fire between the every-expanding Liberty University Evangelical Christian populations, the poor, blue collar locals, and many thousands of other out of town college-students. The city's population surpassed maximum carrying capacity around 2010, and the infrastructure can no longer support the ever-growing student populations. The area has limited zoning codes or enforcement and is defined by churches on ever corner, strip plaza's, gas stations, used car lots, small businesses, car washes, fast food, restaurants, apartment and townhome complexes all jumbled together, which has created a confusing road network and unattractive landscape. The downtown area is undergoing "re-vitalization" projects, but has yet to gain much attention or interest from the student or local populations due to the limited parking, and extremely high rent in this district. The political tension can be felt on the area roads with a combination of right-winger, old-south republicans, out of town students from northern states with progressive democratic views and the large Evangelical population. The economy of the region has declined drastically since 2010, when several large employers closed-doors and went out of business, or moved out of town, leaving mostly "service work" or manual labor jobs to the local population. Only a handful of medium sized manufacturing companies remain.
