At its 2015 launch the game was praised for providing an authentic way to play Minecraft on Nintendo's flagship home console at the time, but received criticism for its lack of use of the Wii U Gamepad, and limited world sizes. The game received feature updates until 2018 when the game was discontinued. By then the game had sold 1.47 Million units making it one of the Wii U's higher selling titles. The game included the Nintendo exclusive Super Mario Mash Up Pack which made it the most expensive version of Minecraft at the time selling for $29.99 USD.
