Spicy Autism

Not on the linear spectrum of mild to severe or to low or high functioning, many autistic people characterize their "type" of Autism as spicy to counteract the ableism implied by functioning labels.
"Lauren has mild autism"
"No, you're supposed to say Lauren is mildly autistic"

"No, I have spicy autism. I'm autistic and I am spicy. Its a planular spectrum of spice. Spicy autism for the win." -Lauren

Cure for autism

There is no cure for autism, and there will most likely never be one to ever exist. Most autistic people would decline one anyhow given the choice, since autism typically plays a big part in who they are.

Cures that won't work:

- Diets. Will not affect the brain in any way related to autism.

- ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) Therapy. ABA is supposed to prevent meltdowns, often mistaken for temper tantrums by less educated parents. A temper tantrum is someone trying to manipulate people to get something, whereas a meltdown is the brain being overloaded with information to process about its surroundings (If it's too loud, too bright, etc.).
ABA makes the autistic person conform to neurotypical standards, though they are not suited for it. All a meltdown needs in order to be settled is usually a dark, quiet room with support where needed. Instead of suggesting catering to these needs, ABA 'therapists' will punish autistic people for having meltdowns, despite meltdowns being out of their control. ABA therapists are usually in it for the money.

(Side note about vaccines: It's a common misconception made up by a man called Andrew Wakefield, who claimed in a 1998 article that the MMR vaccine could give someone autism by affecting the intestines, with skewed and fabricated evidence. He lost his medical license in 2010, and all of the original authors have taken their names off of the article since.)
The only true "cure for autism" that will work is listening to autistic voices. There is a lot of misunderstanding about the autistic community, and the best way to clear it up is by learning about autism first. The reason it hasn't been cleared up is because some people live in ignorance and don't want to listen.
Autistic people are the only firsthand experts on autism. A neurotypical person will never truly understand/experience what it is like, no matter how qualified they are in any biology. Let us speak first, then you can work on a cure.
(Which still won't happen).

Kid Autism

Nickname/description of a young professional that has no idea how awkward they are in the workplace or other social settings. Frequently exhibited in technical fields such as engineering. Behaviors include: carrying on uncomfortable conversations, long-winded emails that talk in circles, stalking co-workers without making contact, staring at people, and peaking around corners.

Every office likely has one 'Kid Autism', though not often to a degree that it noticeably affects their ability to interact with co-workers.

The condition does not required actually being diagnosed as clinically autistic; any combination of unusual behavior or lack of understanding social protocols will serve as an adequate basis for attribution of the nickname. Intended to be only mildly insulting, but more generally a term of endearment.
Ollie: The other day 'Kid Autism' sneaked up on me and stood in the door of my cubical for 5 minutes staring at me until I happened to turn around. He said he didn't want to "bother me".

Jerrod: He is one creepy little f***er.

Selective Autism

Selective Autism is the act of choosing to ignore sarcasm and nuance for the sole purpose of feigning outrage.
Social Justice Warrior: I have a friend who babysits for a couple with an autistic kid, and I find your use of the term "Selective Autism" to be very insensitive.
