The fewer degrees of separation one has from the cradles of new developments - such as following the right accounts on Twitter, being there when the very first incarnation of a new meme-to-be ever got posted on an imageboard, etc. - the more net cred one has. Essentially: a qualitative measure of one's experience with or knowledge of the Internet as a community at large.
