ditch work

You ditch work when you avoid work by staying away or leaving early without permission. Perhaps someone pretends to suffer sickness (= fake flu or because of something you ate last night) and means to stay at home to recover, but indeed you need an excuse for missing work.

Today I am going to ditch work and go fishing instead.

Ditch

An Australian Colloquialism, Ditch is the collective noun for a group of mates. It stems from the behavior "ditching", where an individual leaves a social situation without informing any other members of the group.

Hey mate, come down to the Vineyard, we've got a real ditch of mates down here.

Ditchy McAbandonpants

Pathetic loser who leaves his friends in the lurch when they needed him most. This saying may have been spawned in 2005 by the children's cartoon, "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends".

Character 2 is attacked by a monster and his friend bugs out instead of staying to help him. After #2 gets stomped, Character 1 walks up and asks:
Character 1: "Are you ok??"
Character 2: "Sure. (pointing at the unloyal friend) No thanks to Ditchy McAbandonpants here."

Dinner and Ditch

The phrase used to describe a female who agrees to go out on a date with a male, the female has no interest in the male, but agress to go out on the date for a free meal. This can be repeated as necessary until the oblivious male figures it out or is usually ditched immediately. Note: This is not to be confused with a prostitute, there is usually no exchange of sexual relations.

Female A: Eww that ugly guy just asked for you number and you gave it to him?
Female B: Yeah duh, it's going to be a dinner and ditched
Female A: Hahah what a loser
